To Whom It May Concern:

Our landfill facility has been approved by the Maine DEP to use tarps for daily cover on our landfill. In the past, handling the tarps by hand or machine would serve the purpose quite well but the life of the tarps was quite short because we were dragging the tarps over the trash by hand.

We started using the TDS from Mercer Motor Works and immediately realized that the life of our tarps was extended considerably. The TDS we are now using greatly reduces labor and equipment usage because we can do the entire daily covering in a very short time and reduced the amount of labor required.

The TDS is built strong enough to survive in a landfill environment. The performance of the TDS has prompted us to purchase 2 more to use in the upcoming expansion.

The Crossroads facility deploys 12 mil scrim-reinforced tarps, on a motor driven spool, to cover landfill waste. These tarps are considered an "alternate daily cover" and are approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Utilization of this system greatly reduces labor and equipment time previously needed to drag and place other covers. In addition daily soil cover will not be needed and natural resources will therefore be preserved. Lastly, the tarp material is approximately 75' by 150' in size and durable enough to service in a harsh landfill environment. Crossroads has purchased several of these systems and will continue to do so in the future due to positive financial returns.
